Perspective

Satire on false perspective by Hogarth.
A False Perspective

Perspective… how does it relate to your situation or feelings?

Most perceived problems are either enhanced or diminished according to your perspective.

For example… Do you worry about your weight? The slightest bulge or extra chin you feel shouldn’t be there, makes you anxious? What happens when you are in a room full of Sumo wrestlers, would your feelings change on how you think of yourself? Of course as your perspective has been changed.

You’ve been threatened of retention from your job and this makes you stress like hell. What if you’d already had an offer from another employer. Would you feel as stressed? Of course not because the perspective is different.

Think back to a time when you thought your problem or situation was the biggest dilemma this planet has had to face. Was it really?

Was the reason of losing a job leaving you unemployed such a big deal when knowing full well you could get another one.

What truly drives your emotions is not really the perceived disaster rather, it is your own pride. When you are able to distinguish or compare your problem with others whose problems far exceed your own then you realise through this perspective that what you are going through is minute most of the time and almost, dare I say, insignificant.

When you are starting to feel overwhelmed or troubled by something, put yourself in perspective to your surroundings. Visualise yourself from a great distance encompassing a large expanse of land that surrounds you. Is it that big a problem?

The thread to remember: When something gets you down, try to overcome it by looking at the big picture.
